About us

We are a small volunteer organization recognized by HMRC, primarily focused on transporting whole blood, as well as delivering emergency plasma, medications, and medical samples to hospitals and patients across Essex and Greater London. The Essex Voluntary Blood Service relies on dedicated volunteer riders and drivers who generously give time without compensation, covering their own expenses while providing this essential service. In response to COVID-19, we expanded our usual free service to the NHS to operate full time and have stayed like that ever since with volunteer administrative staff managing calls to ensure immediate task assignments. Most blood collected from the Basildon Blood Bank and delivered to within a specified time frame, sometimes using liveried motorcycles and cars capable of restricted blue light operations if  requested by the hospitals.

The management and trustees of EVBS remain respectful of the driving or riding abilities of our volunteers or future volunteers and that the standard will be reflected as our front line ambassadors.

With this in mind we are aware that some other groups insist on membership or accreditation to Rospa or IAM and whilst that is an admirable asset it is not mandatory.

If further clarification is needed do get in touch as we rather you ask than assume.
